The county and state grant programs are for residential property — an existing single-family or two-family home, or a single-family home with one accessory apartment — so a restaurant, a marina or a small plaza on its own system is outside them, and the whole cost of an upgrade sits with the owner. And permitting still runs through the Suffolk County Department of Health Services Office of Wastewater Management, on 631-852-5700, with town or village and wetlands permits often needed alongside. Commercial flows are larger and the sizing work is different, so establish the permitting path early rather than alongside a failure.
